That is, until the ducklings grow up, are released into a pond, and greet the local feral cat colony as long-lost relatives. To these people, we owe our gratitude. How cute!

They have not always partnered together, but the female bird appears to have a lot more luck than others. I say “luck” because there is a problem with predation by feral cats and it really is beyond their control as it were.
