Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. And a dead end. There's never a shortage of creatures who need our help.

If you live near water, you can try some duck nesting tubes. I see them all over in marshes in Minnesota but I had never seen a duck use one. I didn’t think they were as agile as a wood duck, but apparently they can. I saw this at Bear River Migratory Refuge in Utah. I used to be very skeptical of these.

Inevitably, it’s a situation where you were there, and for me, it’s the swimming male polar bear. I was up high, high in the helicopter with this special, stabilized camera system we were using, and I knew that I was filming something that had never been filmed before because you can’t normally follow a polar bear out into the open ocean.
