Crested Pigeons – Ocyphaps lophotes are very widespread throughout Australia and can easily be observed in Broome on the streetlights on a wintery morning. Considering Broome often experiences cyclones and strong winds it does make sense for the birds to build a more substantial nest to survive the extreme weather.

The species is only in the north of Australia and they are often found in locations that are hard to get to year round. We have been able to observe Purple-crowned Fairy-wrens in a few locations across the north of Australia and they were quite easy to see in the car-park at Big Horse Creek in 2017. Varied Sittellas at Langi Crossing

Presbycusis is age-related hearing loss in humans, but I have also discovered that birds, fish and amphibians do not experience presbycusis due to the fact that they can regenerate their cochlear sensory cells. It turns out there is a word for this condition-presbycusis.

Grey-crowned Babblers-Yahoo!

If you have any experience with these birds then it makes perfect sense. These are the largest Babblers in Australia and inhabit the area from the north-west of Western Australia right down the east coast. In the southern areas of Australia you may also encounter White-browed Babblers , which are smaller and duller.
