One of the joys of walking a neighbour’s dog is that you get to see the changes around the local parks on a daily basis. There has been a family of Tawny Frogmouths at our local supermarket car-park in other years. Another treat on my daily dog walk! I took the dog home and returned with my camera. Tawny Frogmouths.

Pied Oystercatcher eggs It is Winter here in Northern Australia which means plenty of cloud-free blue sky and there are definitely worst places to be sitting for twenty eight days watching the world go by! I could observe where the family had come down to the ocean at night on the big tides. One large Pied Oystercatcher family !

Broome’s Pied Oystercatchers are breeding again

Family footprints. When I find these Pied Oystercatcher family footprints like above I don’t need to see the young, because that is enough evidence to know there are young hidden in the vegetation. Pied Oystercatchers around Broome always lead you away from their nest sites or their chicks whether you are human or a dog.

Pied Oystercatcher parenting

There was little movement by the family during the heat of the day except to fly to the shoreline for a drink and to cool their feet. However, being the weekend, there were dogs on the beach and they decided to move away after a short period of time. The dog had one thing on its mind-get covered in soft sand and then leave.

The first Pied Oystercatcher chicks of 2018

Sadly the outcome from here is often chick loss from predation, but for now we will enjoy observing the two families of Pied Oystercatchers as they wander the dunes and come down to the ocean to feed when there are less people around. Marlow Lagoon

Marlow Lagoon is an excellent place to observe the Kingfisher family and often I will see a Sacred Kingfisher sitting on the power line near the entrance. Trips Australia northern territory' I have observed three Nankeen Night Herons on one island at Marlow Lagoon. Nankeen Night Heron.
