The Cattle Egret is native to Africa, where it is a familiar sight among herds of large mammals. In the east, this species can be found along the east coast of Africa, the Nile Valley,and into parts of the middle east and India and southeast Asia. I’d like to introduce you to a diminutive heron, the Cattle Egret Bubuclus ibis.

White-backed / Striated Munia Lonchura striata Munias or mannikins (but not manakins), are small, seed-eating finches from Africa, Asia and Australia. For example, the Nutmeg Munia, Lonchura punctulata , has managed to maintain a presence in California and Florida for some years.

This bird represented only the second documented record of this species in Florida.
