The marine protected area status was designated in 2013.

Endangered and Unknown: Red-billed Curassow

Red-billed Curassow ( Crax blumenbachii ), a large, ground-dwelling bird belonging to the same family as the more familiar Plain Chachalaca of southern Texas, was never a very widespread species. In 2013, Dalcio Dacol and I paid a visit to this reserve as part of an independent, month long birding trip in southeast Brazil.

An errant Cuckoo that spent the summer near my home in 2013 helped reignite my passion for birding, before, presumably, it returned to warmer climes.

I’m happy to say that Laura Erickson and Marie Read have written a book, Into the Nest: Intimate Views of the Courting, Parenting, and Family Lives of Familiar Birds , that is not too cute and that does not anthropomorphize. Part Two: The Family Live of Selected Species” describes and illustrates the family lives of 49 species in 25 chapters.

Eventually everyone made it to their computer, and created the Summer of 2013 Rehabber’s Wish List: Money. Why is there no state or federal money available to care for federally protected species? Monte in California agreed: “I’d like some time just to watch healthy wild families.”. I’d wish for respect for what we do.”.

Birding the Gilpin Trace, Main Ridge Forest Reserve, Tobago

Since 1776 it has been protected land and the biodiversity there speaks volumes to what nearly 250 years of conservation can do. But I think that UNESCO explains things better than I can : The Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve is on record as the oldest legally protected forest reserve geared specifically towards a conservation purpose.
