I strongly suspect that the rate of attrition on this Loon family is inversely proportionate to the abundance of ducklings in the bay. The adults move to flocks, there may be two or three of them, that hang out mostly far off shore in the larger part of the lake, abandoning their embayments or otherwise protected areas.

My brother suffered from some pretty bad allergies while we were growing up, so a dog was never an option for my family. Protect them from the sun. Personally, I know I can’t spend more than five minutes outside without a thick layer of sunscreen to protect my pale Irish skin. Be careful near gardens and garages.
