I counted them very roughly, but I do have a lot of experience estimating flocks. among the 2000 m / 6500 ft high mountains (hence, offers a wide range of habitats) in northern Greece, about an hour north of Thessaloniki or three hours south of the Bulgarian capitol, Sofia. Then 20 more joined them, so I entered 100 in my notebook.

Here’s a diagram, available on the Audubon site , that compares its 2000 range with its anticipated 2080 range: Only 1 percent of the bird’s breeding range remains stable between 2000 and 2080 if global warming continues on its current course.

All these people were legends – I barely scraped past 2000 in half a century. Having learned from my Namibian experience I walked away briskly. You could not be blamed to think that birders are almost like the Kennedy’s: good-looking but passing before their time. It’s just the warm-up.

Trying to breed the species in an aviary provided some disappointments, for example with regard to their nest-building abilities: “I don’t know what previous experience the birds had at nest construction, but their attempt was pretty pathetic” ( source ). Bad manners, I think.

Its waterproof fold-able covers bring back childhood memories… I must have had some illustrated children book with similar covers – my fingertips remember the experience. I wonder how Lynx will pack 2000 species into a single volume that should be manageable in the field – the biggest field guide challenge in the world.

Four lions, rescued by Animal Defenders International (ADI) from a Bolivian circus when the country banned the use of animals in circuses have a new home, and a life of luxury at the ARK 2000 sanctuary in Calaveras County. The ADI rescue operation was backed by Bob Barker. ADI also rescues animals in distress worldwide.
