If you look draw line straight up a northern biased line thru the Sea of Cortez, the normal path of a hurricane in the Sea of Cortez, it would run very nearly right thru Southeast Arizona. The bird was discovered hanging out right next to the Visitors Center for the refuge.

Now that we have returned to our adopted home of La Paz, Mexico, our bones are starting to thaw out from the trip to chilly Seattle. This female Black-and-white Warbler must have found a sweet spot, as it sat right there and nibbled on something. This Ladder-backed Woodpecker was chipping away, right above my head.

An article in today's Seattle Times about Woodland Park Zoo's attempts over the last 20 years to breed elephants. Very controversial with organizations such as In Defense of Animals, PETA and the Northwest Animal Rights Network. They say it's cruel. The zoo claims it's to preserve the species.

Circumstances have been such, that the bulk of my visits to Nisqually, have been in the winter, so the refuge, in the peak of a Seattle Summer, is a much different place. Back in the US of A!

I am out on an off shore boat trip, from Seattle, north thru the San Juan Islands, and if the weather permits, up into the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada. On the very last day, this one landed right near our house. This one was warming up, in the early morning sun, near the Hippo Pools. This is the White-bellied Sunbird.

We had contacted the staff at the observatory, and with Jonnies help, arranged to stay right there in their newly built hostel type facility. The staff there was friendly and very helpful, it is a great place to stay that is very reasonable, and it puts you right in the middle of an amazing amount of birding areas.

We will cover nearly 3000 miles driving before we reach Seattle, and our final stop. Right after passing the headquarters, there were a couple hundred geese nibbling on the new grass shoots near a pond, so I pulled out the spotting scope, and right there alongside all these geese, was my one single, Greater White-fronted Goose.

Here in Seattle, NARN (Northwest Animal Rights Network) has been staging protests at a local restaurant that serves foie gras. They've caught a lot of grief over it. They get laughed at by patrons and they are criticized by local paper The Stranger. I can't say I've always felt it was the best use of time.
