One of the cool things about this species is that they are year round residents in their territory. They also can be easily attracted to nest boxes (plans available here ).

Late April / early May is the best birding season in the south of Europe and wherever you go, you will have 50% to 100% more species than in any other season. Recently, I did a bit of embankment birding, nailing 65 species (several of them firsts for the season, European Bee-eaters among them – always exciting).

He had a legal permit to own them (Conditional Species Permit), and had legally microchipped them according to FWC guidelines. This makes it much harder for people to have empathy for snakes, even though snakes have retained all the biological features that are important to consider for animal ethics (just like turtles and lizards).

Marshes are the habitats with the greatest species richness in moderate zones, also significant as breeding, wintering and migratory stopover sites for birds; it therefore comes as no surprise that this one is among the 10,000 Important Bird Areas of the World (one per each bird species?). BIRDING SEA WORLD One would expect a marine-themed attraction to deliver some sweet bird species. My best wild bird of Legoland had to be some kind of heron hunting among the turtles and young alligators in a cypress swamp. I obviously didn’t anticipate a pelagic vibe, but even fish hatcheries can offer excellent birding.

The book is divided into three parts: “Introduction,” “Avifaunal Overview,” and “Species Accounts.” Patrol and enforce wildlife-damaging violations, including the taking of endangered native plants, capturing turtles, riding ATV’s on pedestrian trails, and abandoning fishhooks. It’s a very mixed chapter.

The smellier the better, particularly as, unusually for birds, many species can boast a robust sense of smell. In any case, our hang-ups with vultures clearly stem from our own issues rather than any inherently bizarre trait of the species themselves. Vultures famously feed on carrion. Dead things. Surrounded by coral reefs filled with fish, sea turtles of three species plus the common visits of Manta Rays: it is a pretty exciting place for anyone who likes to skin dive. The most common two species here are the Black Noddy – a kind of tern and the Bridled Tern. They both nest here in good numbers. Other birds?

On the slow crawl into the farm, the first sighting was a small group of Green Ibis – a new species for me. Endemic to the Guianan shield, this species has captivated me since I first laid eyes on a photograph of it. Most notably of which was a pair of Blood-colored Woodpeckers. I had never before seen a Limpkin do this.

The adults of most species will still care for the chicks no matter how much you touch them. A female red-tail may leave a nest to hunt for her two chicks and return to feed a rabbit to three chicks without noting an increase in the number of chicks a rehabber has placed there. Do not worry about touching the baby birds.

Once we were checked in, we headed straight out to begin our hunt. Our first three days were spent bouncing around from area to area, looking to find the species on my wish list. Bang Pra is a reservoir and no-hunting area to the south east of Bangkok. The flowerpecker, an attractive species, was actually responsible for Peter becoming a birder in the first place! Our next species was decidedly uncommon, a Black-headed Ibis circled overhead for a minute before flying off.

Given the complexity of the research, the result feels like a bit of a letdown – “northern populations start migration earlier than southern populations, especially in autumn” The species name of the Chestnut-eared Bunting is fucata , from the Latin “fucare”, to paint red.
