PETA has asked the group Pet Shop Boys to change their name to Rescue Shelter Boys. Peta Europe has written to Pet Shop Boys with a request they are unable to agree to," reads a post on the band's official website. Peta's letter requests the name change because of the cruelty it alleges takes place in the pet trade.

Rescuing the Vick dogs was a controversial move by Best Friends and some animal groups, most notably PETA, did not agree with it. I'm a dues-paying member of both groups but, while I support euthanasia when it is CLEARLY an act of mercy, I come down pretty hard on Best Friends' side here.

I broadened my groups to runners, writers, environmentalists and atheists thinking perhaps I should try to find more like-minded people in a more holistic kind of way. In other words, vegans who don't support PeTA and don't campaign for larger cages are alien to most of the non-vegan world and even much of the vegan world.
