On the raptor front, whirling flocks of Mississippi Kites , and massive groups of Broad-winged Hawks are passing through, and Ospreys are patrolling the beaches. I counted 30, then 50, and when another group of Buff-breasteds flew in, there were an unbelievable 64 of these scarce migrants.

Swallow-tailed Kite : I had a hard time deciding between this species and Mississippi Kite. He was not sure of what it was and the following evening posted a photo on the Facebook group “What’s This Bird?” It’s just a matter of time before it happens again and I will be there to find it!

Eventually, it was time to head back upstream and we counted more birds, an Osprey here, a group of migrating raptors there with a late Mississippi Kite , Swainson’s Hawks , and a couple other birds. A flyby Giant Cowbird , herons that squawked as they lumbered off on broad, dino-wings.
