School Burrowing Owls

Broward County has one of the highest densities of Burrowing Owls in Florida. It also has one of the highest human population densities in the state. Not surprisingly, this brings Burrowing Owls into close contact with humans across the county. Burrowing Owls are a common occurrence at most Broward County schools.

Backyard Beneficiaries

Thankfully, they now have a home here where they can court, build their nest, and raise their young. At night, we keep our eyes out for the passage of the neighborhood Barn Owl , oftentimes a Tropical Screech-Owl would hunt insects from a low perch on our almond tree. I do miss going out – but I’m not sure how much!

I wonder how this applies to humans, though. Is “OPP” PG-13?)

How To Help A Baby Bird

That’s an old wives’ tale that says bird won’t take care of a baby bird with a human smell on it–not true at all. If you cannot find the nest or it’s too destroyed, do not try and raise a chick this young. It’s illegal to raise wild birds (even orphaned ones) without state and federal permits.
