Sunday morning was a perfect morning to get out on the East Pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. ” At Jamaica Bay in August the standard peep is the Semipalmated Sandpiper , which is present in the hundreds or even thousands. Now, I have mixed feelings: cautious and by experience mistrustful, but happy. It all started well three decades ago, when I intensively birded the Danube Backwaters by kayak.
