A family of owls, affectionately called the Potted Plant Owls have taken up residence in a potted plant on the the balcony of South African couple Allen and Tracy. The owls themselves are amazing creatures, and we have already begun to observe their nesting process, as they are expected to lay eggs any day now.

Last year the nest failed, the eggs apparently not viable, never hatching. I had crossed the stream and was approaching for a quick look to see how many eggs were in the nest this year. The parent waited just off shore, and as soon as I neared enough to look at the two eggs that had been laid, she started. Splish Splash.

The Australian Brush-turkey is far enough removed from the American Turkey’s Phasianidae family to not even get considered for wedding and funeral invitations.
