Birding Kota Kinabalu, Borneo: Rice Paddies

10,000 Birds

When birding Sabah, Borneo, one almost inevitably passes through Kota Kinabalu, the biggest city and the destination of almost all international flights. While no birder would come here just for the birds of the city, some of them are worth spending a few hours on. One location to find them is Tanjung Aru Beach – I will probably write a separate post on it later.

A Photographic Guide to the Wildlife of India

10,000 Birds

Trying not to inhale so much of the dust cloud that envelops us, I am sporting a bandana tied bank-robber style. A winding track through dense woodlands takes us to the Telia Lake in the southeast of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. Our guide is standing on his seat, scanning the area with binoculars. All of a sudden, in a hushed voice he says one word only: “ Tigers!

In Search of the Imperial Amazon

10,000 Birds

This near-mythical parrot has captivated my subconscious from the moment I learned of its existence. A massive (largest member of the Amazona group of parrots) creature with searing red eyes set in a sea of blue, brown, and purple, the Imperial Parrot ( Amazona imperialis ) is a recluse of higher elevation forest on the island of Dominica. Intimately linked to mature forest on a single island, the species – by this logic alone – faces an uphill battle.

Comb-crested Jacanas breeding near Broome

10,000 Birds

Earlier this year when we first observed Comb-crested Jacanas close to Broome they had just arrived from further north in Australia. Often we have had to travel further north to observe Comb-crested Jacanas , but when we have high rainfall during our wet summer months we can expect to observe them. Although we did not observe any nests in the Broome area we have now observed younger Comb-crested Jacanas and they have clearly bred locally.

Hi, I need to identify an animal I saw today. I was at a lake and saw something swimming towards me. It looked like earthworm or a very little snake. Does anyone have any clue what It could be? Help!!

Reddit Animals

I just found a kitten crying out for help on the side of the road at night on a walk. I scooped it up and took it home with me but all the stores with formula are closed because it is 2 am here. Should I have left it? I don’t know if it’s mom was around. Should I take it back or would the mom already be gone? I think it is five weeks old, can climb and jump well and eyes are still sorta blue.

Why are there no Alligators in Europe?

We got plenty of food, no predators (as far as I can think at least) and in some States of the U.S there's pretty cold winter's and still gators.

Has anyone heard a woodchuck making a similar sound to a raccoon?

Our cat, "Milo", is an indoor/outdoor cat, who was also somewhat raised with an opossum ("Tino"). They bonded, and since his passing, she's seemingly on this search for another "companion." ? Bat in childs room, any experts?

Hi. I am in western Pennsylvania and we just found a bat in the room with our toddler. We don't think it was in there long and was flying around in circles when we went in. Are there any better subreddits to post on?

I kept a hold of him but he was already turned around a corner and under it so I couldn't get him out without hurting him.
