A Little Neck-breaking Never Hurt

10,000 Birds

Tropical forests that are worlds away from comfortable feeder set-ups are notorious for making birders work for their sightings. Operating in the sphere of ecotourism, I understand the undeniable appeal of luxury birding – sipping coffee in flip-flops behind a tripod, binoculars within comfortable reach as multitudes of multicoloured birds descend upon the mossiest of perches at eye level to gorge on ripe bananas and papaya.

i wanna know if i was in the right

Reddit Animals

my house had a mouse infestation so we set traps everywhere and a chipmunk came into my garage and got caught in one im guessing last night. It had tried to get off the trap so hard that it seperated its leg from its skin and would have died anyway if it was let back out into nature. i didn't want to let it sit and die so i drowned it and disposed of it in the most respectfull way possible, it got its own heavy duty black garbage bag. im still kinda in shock after doing that and i wanna know

You Work with What You’ve Got

10,000 Birds

… And sometimes that’s a lot. Last week, I failed to produce a post, because I was getting ready to spend a week in Mexico’s tropical state of Tabasco. I am teaching for 25 hours in a Presbyterian Theological Seminary, as well as speaking at a Baptist church on Sunday, so there was lots of preparation involved. Because of the intensive work commitment here, I have not been able to go anywhere except the urban church and the grounds of the Seminary.

More Winter Birding in Bonn

10,000 Birds

Winter birding in Bonn generally appears to be rather bleak, but I can’t really complain with the Wallcreeper that spent several weeks just outside the city. Now that this bird has seemingly moved on, I had to find other species to distract me, but fortunately that was not too hard. Adding to a post in January on birding in Bonn in winter , I have had the chance to get out on a few more birding walks here and there in the city on weekends.

Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 1)

10,000 Birds

Hongbenghe is directly at the border to Myanmar – before COVID-19, it was easy enough to walk across the border on foot, but now a monstrous long steel and barbed-wire fence separates the two countries. Very appealing to tourists nostalgic for that iron curtain feeling. This is the home of the Rusty-naped Pitta , admittedly one of the less glamorous of the family, particularly the subspecies found in Yunnan, but still a nice sight and still a pitta.

Cardinal keeps flapping into window. Not sure how to stop it.

Reddit Animals

I have a Cardinal that keeps flapping into my garage window. It's starting to bother me as I don't want it to get hurt. Thankfully it hasn't, yet. I'm sure it's due to those branches being right up to the window and it not getting enough moment to do serious harm. Not the first year it does this. I bought this place a few years ago and it look like the windows are a bit tinted?

Conjoined mice (human centipede!)

Reddit Animals

So, first of all. I'm sorry I was not able to get a picture. Where I work we have some mice in the fields. Last week we spotted a concoined mice(s). Not to weird as it does happen, but this mice has another mice stuck at its rectum. The second mice did not have head (or concoined in the rectum of the other) utterly facinated and disgusted at the same time I went to look up on the internet but could not find other references of something like this.

(Sorta graphic) What killed this bird?

Reddit Animals

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but please direct me somewhere else because I'm very curious. This poor bird had a broken wing for a while and today I saw it dead. Me and my step-dad were trying to work out how it died, since I've never seen anything like it. Looks like the head was almost ripped off?

Help- ladybugs

Reddit Animals

I keep finding ladybugs in my apartment super late at night. Keep in mind it’s 12:11 at night, and freezing outside. It’s a weird coincidence… but idk what to do. I have him in a little cup right now, anyone have tips on how to keep him alive? I’ll probably just keep him in my apartment for now and let him live here until he dies because I mean if I put him outside he’s gonna instantly freeze.
