Unless those non-birding folks happen to be duck hunters or love to go fishing, they tend to stay away from the marshes, the riparian zones, the bottom lands. The first harbored a bunch of shorebirds including Pectoral and Silt Sandpipers along with various waders, Limpkins , a couple of distant Snail Kites , and some ducks.

Our little group set out to remedy that, by focusing on the southern Albermarle peninsula and the areas around Beaufort and Pamlico counties. With a very diverse, and extremely large wildlife population, Summer Lake has become an extremely popular destination, not only for waterfowl hunters, but birdwatchers, fishermen, and photographers. Nearly every shallow water area a small group of Greater Yellowlegs. Black-neck Stilts and White-faced Ibis were incredibly abundant.
