For Coal T**s , resident birds were found to be slimmer than transients, which makes sense as they have better knowledge of the available resources and thus less volatility in their food supply (and of course slimmer birds are better at not being eaten themselves). In science speak, this is named the optimal body mass hypothesis.

The many small ponds and waterways attract quite a few ducks, though presumably due to their China experience, they are extremely wary of people. Of course, winter can be a depressing time even for birds. In contrast, Little Egrets almost seem to revel in their high visibility (when they do not suffer from winter depression).

And of course, the photos here show a female, as far as I can tell. Of course, this factoid should be presented with a photo of a male, not a female rosefinch. In my experience, people eat more food they are familiar with than food that is unfamiliar. Apparently, this name is derived from the well-ordered patterns of the male.

So, maybe not be the best place to visit for monks suffering from depression. Me, as a management consultant, I sometimes have to pretend to like challenges but of course, I would rather have some easy tasks. My extensive birding experience allows me to be very confident that the bird below is a Rosefinch.

My view, then, is not that which it has often been taken to be in discussion and which Singer, Regan, Clark, and others blast in their work; I am not suggesting that, because they lack language, animals can be factory farmed without suffering. Animals can suffer, which they could not unless they were conscious; so they are conscious.

It is impossible to say, of course, exactly how different remaining ecosystems will appear 100 or 500 years from now, but we can speculate. Though all birds will be somehow impacted by climate change, I think it is important to note that not all will suffer. Will early-arriving birds suffer from having to endure late winter storms?
