One of the many things I did not know about Delhi is that it is the capital city with the second-largest number of bird species (after Nairobi). These photos were actually taken right from my hotel room. House-hunting, apparently. Cattle Egret. Black Ibis. Yes, I can understand how the bird got its name. Black Kite.

That honor goes to the Gray-crowned Crane , a very sexy species in its own right. Of course, we did, soaking in that slate blue beauty long enough to observe a successful hunt and more of its rangy, awkward flight. Having finally seen this iconic species, I can assure you that the experience wildly exceeds expectations.

A few paddle strokes down the river and on the right bank there were four Impala antelopes ( Aepyceros melampus ). Among 60 or so heron species in the world this is the only one using this peculiar fishing technique. nubicoides ) using them as a high viewpoint to hunt dragonflies. Cattle Egret 16. Driving north along the Ionian seacoast through the city of Igoumenitsa, there is a place where the main artery takes you right, further away from the sea – follow it for 150 metres (500 ft) and then turn left just before a small stadium. The rest of the road follows the sea for some 3.5 Could they possibly be…?

The very first thing we notice about this large member of the Galliformes is that there is a wild version and a domestic version, and although the two are rather different, they are both given the same species name, Meleagris gallopavo. They may have also had hunting dogs with them as well. Which would be weird.

The smellier the better, particularly as, unusually for birds, many species can boast a robust sense of smell. In any case, our hang-ups with vultures clearly stem from our own issues rather than any inherently bizarre trait of the species themselves. Vultures famously feed on carrion. Dead things. New World Vultures.
