It is no more acceptable to confine 60 hens for their entire lives in a cage that you report is “about the size of a Ford F-150 pickup truck’s flatbed” than it would be to treat 60 cats similarly. The same goes for pigs and cattle that are exploited and forced to live in substandard conditions. Chickens deserve to live humanely.

If you go to Culebra you will be astounded at the sheer number of outdoor cats and chickens. I have never been anywhere with so many cats in my life. Cattle Egrets were easily found in any open areas, particularly around the airport and the eastern end of the island. Waterbird variety wasn’t huge but it was interesting.

The female is less colorful and also sometimes seems to be in need of some good brushing, like the one I sometimes give to those of my cats who do not run away fast enough. For the autumn season of 2023, this would be the sighting of a male Yellow-rumped Flycatcher on August 27.
