World Sparrow Day 2011

In response to the decline last year saw the first ever World Sparrow Day and tomorrow, 20 March, is the second annual World Sparrow Day. Hes only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable life list by birding whenever he wasnt working as a union representative or spending time with his family.

Birding Carska Bara Reserve in December Fog

Of course, I was going – birding, so the view of the fog (certainly not through the fog) has drawn several comments which I will not share here with you… While the Lada 4×4 is bumping along the dirt track (road??) Large birds flying through silver fog… buzzards? A way to beat the cold? No, they are Common Ravens. I hate fog.

Birding John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge

Being a New Yorker, I had never birded the refuge before. After all, why would I drive over two hours to bird in habitat that is very similar to much closer locations? I also returned Saturday morning prior to the start of the conference for some early morning birding. And I saw much more than just a Yellow-billed Cuckoo.
