He died on July 27, 2008. Published in 1966, it is a collection of brief profiles and magnificent portraits of 56 of the region’s most characteristic birds. To accompany this review I have added two of my photos of my favourite bird family, the New world warblers. His work has been exhibited at major galleries and museums.

Firstly I would like to just do a little update on the Pied Oystercatcher family that were a large part of my life for the last few weeks of 2014. Penguins was preceded by Albatross: Their World, Their Ways (2008), co-authored with Mark Jones and Julian Fritter; the Penguins book was conceived with Jones and Cornthwaite as a successor to Albatross. That’s a lot of books about a bird family that cannot fly. It is not an essential purchase. and used for travel of the soul.

This is how, I think, the “Crossley technique” works best—coverage of specific bird families that pose identification challenges to birders at all levels of skill. And Hybrids: Waterfowl tend to hybridize to a greater degree than most other bird families, and the guide does an excellent job of covering hybrids.
