A hunting season on sandhill cranes vastly increases the chance that collateral kill of endangered whooping cranes will occur. The handful of pairs that are attempting to nest in Ohio appear to winter in Tennessee. Could Ohio lose its entire pioneer breeding population? We’ve only got 400 on the planet. What if they’re shot?

The University of California, Davis is the focus of a major federal complaint charging it and two other nationally known university research centers have killed dozens of primates through traumatic injuries, veterinary negligence and other violations. The others are the University of Michigan and University of Louisiana/New Iberia.

In support of National Primate Liberation Week, the Portland Animal Defense League hung a banner that read "OHSU: Stop Killing Monkeys Now!" Stop Animal Exploitation Now, an Ohio-based animal rights group, recently ranked the lab at Oregon Health & Science University as the nation's sixth worst animal lab out of 44 others.

Oh, and yes, some do also kill our local “turkey”, the Great Curassow. We were in the right places at the right times, this is how two birders from Ohio and myself saw this majestic trio of birds. This curassow is great. Black-and-white Hawk-Eagle.

Shon Rahrig : While living in Ohio in 1999, Rahrig allegedly adopted several cats and a puppy from local shelters and tortured them sadistically. His whereabouts are unknown.
