The refuge is a popular birding location and approximately 230 species have been observed by about 1,400 birders who have submitted nearly 8,000 checklists. Hunting is also prohibited in this area of the refuge. My impression is that it is a fairly safe area and families are a common sight on weekends, as are school groups.

Blue-moustached Bee-eater is rainforest species occurring in just a few scattered sites in Ghana, it was previously considered a subspecies of Blue-headed Bee-eater. This was the local name meaning “ugly” used for these primates by the people of the Gonder area in northern Ethiopia when the German naturalist Rüppell “discovered” this species for science in the 1830’s. Males that do not have attached females also form bachelor groups that usually associate around the periphery of the bands or herds.

The adults of most species will still care for the chicks no matter how much you touch them. If you cannot find the nest or it’s too destroyed, do not try and raise a chick this young. It’s illegal to raise wild birds (even orphaned ones) without state and federal permits. Do not worry about touching the baby birds.
