Either that or having family friends in Germany. First hand birder knowledge of Germany, and in English! I decided then and there that I needed to bird Germany in a way that would make a birding Kraut cry with jealousy. Our plane touched down in Dusseldorf on June 14 where our friend picked us up. I was not lead astray.
