These subspecies can be divided into two major clades, the domesticus group and the indicus group, with the indicus group occupying south and parts of central Asia.

The HBW is not a great fan of the Grey Treepie , describing it as a “rather drab brownish-grey treepie” On the other hand, I have overheard Grey Treepies describing the HBW staff as a “drab and uninspired group of ornithologists”, so it seems the feeling is mutual. More space, fewer people. 0 out of 3.

I could immediately tell them it was an Egyptian Goose – an invasive species in Germany but not at Kruger. Retz’s Helmetshrike is one of the 8 helmetshrikes within the larger family of Vangidae – apparently, a family that evolved from a single Madagascar-based species.

Below legal size for humans is still legal for pelicans. While there is only one hotel relying entirely on birders [his “Limneo”], in the peak season [late April – early May] ten more hotels had birding groups. Over time, an unusual bond of mutual likeliness was created. I know that because they did their lake tours with me.

In somewhat dubious English, the abstract of one paper on this species by Chinese authors states that “ Pycnonotus sinens has got used to the city life and become a kind of city bird that are closely associated with human” (of course, my Chinese – spoken only anyway – is far worse than this English).
