Vagrancy in Birds: A Book Review

10,000 Birds

It also summarizes the vagrancy status of every bird family in the whole wide world, which makes it fun to read as well as superbly educational. The Family Accounts are the fun part of the book. The Family Accounts are also a deeply informational, documented source of information for researchers. Next time, I’ll know why.

Greater White-fronted Goose in Queens

10,000 Birds

Back on Friday, 12 February, I was dismayed when I read the weekly New York City Rare Bird Alert email. Now, a Greater White-fronted Goose is not a big deal in many parts of the world and isn’t even that rare in New York State. I saw lots of Canada Geese – about 450 – but no Greater White-fronted Goose.

Allagash Brewing Company: Uncommon Crow

10,000 Birds

Birding Sweden on the Fly

10,000 Birds

Sweden was one of the most memorable places on this trip, and ending our stay here with these geese sent us off on a high note.

My Year in Birding 2012

10,000 Birds

A text message that let me know about a mega-rarity in New York ! New York State’s first Grace’s Warbler. Adding a new shorebird to my Queens list was a big plus as well! We had a wonderful family vacation in Germany and the Czech Republic during which I managed to do a bit of birding.
