Quality time was spent with a friendly Hamar family at their homestead of grass huts surrounding their cattle corral. This tribe is famed for the incredible lip plates that the women wear.

As our Gypsy comes to a halt, one Oriental Honey Buzzard is investigating the new arrivals. She has grown up in the reserve and has no experience of the environment of which tourists would not be a permanent, however boring part of. Finally, the shores of the Telia lie in front of us. They grill the chickens, and trust me when I say it's all presented as a peak spiritual experience. it's that you don't know what's in your food or where it came from until you read the label, and then investigate beyond the label. Then they yank the heads, slit the throats, and de-feather and gut the chickens.

I strongly suspect that the rate of attrition on this Loon family is inversely proportionate to the abundance of ducklings in the bay. Non-bird watchers without binoculars and experience are notoriously bad sources of information. Sometimes that one reaches adulthood, but just as often it disappears. More alarm calling. Apparently.
