And here in Europe, they are the real deal, an indigenous species and not domesticated animals gone wild. They may have been disturbed by the presence of hunters in the Danube backwaters. The only wildcat I found was illegally killed by hunters during closed season. I think all were males, at last two huge ones certainly were.

The Kerkini Lake, Greece: Dipped One, Got One

At first, the road is paved, but as soon as the tarmac ends, the tracks become decorated by hunters in orange vests. The soil is disturbed by foraging boars (and there is not a single shot from those hunters). I am… mesmerised by the mountain. One Grey-headed Woodpecker flies across the road – a promising start.

Instead, the entry asks us to “Please bear with us while this update takes place” A few months ago, I wrote an email to my bank asking them a specific question.

Maybe those should be protected too? Given that the Black Kite is politely described as an “opportunistic hunter” – which includes the fact that they are more likely to scavenge than most other raptors – the name choice of the company protecting the world’s cyber ecosystem is a bit weird.
