According to a Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences study, human-induced climate change has doubled the area affected by forest fires in the western U.S. Birds are able to fly away, but their nests and eggs can be destroyed. This is about 35 miles West of my home. over the last 30 years.

The local Bald Eagles are getting busy, I suspect there is an egg in the nest. The zoo has already identified several species like the huge monkey-eating Philippine eagle that are at once distinct, endangered, and suffer from lack of attention. All I see are their buts. But that’s not the most interesting thing I’ve seen recently.

The Blue Whistling Thrush is presumably named for its loud human-like whistling, and possibly for being blue. The Crested Serpent Eagle is another species bound to suffer from a naming error in perpetuity. “It is not deep enough yet! The Kalij Pheasant is not very good at denouncing typical avian gender stereotypes either.

The bird on the photo is one of the estimated 3500-15,000 individuals still alive according to the HBW – a frightening thought given the (too) large number of humans, of which there are about 1 million times more (and of course, each of which weighs 5000 times more than the flycatcher).

To be honest, both the robin and the flycatchers shown above remind me of the easter eggs I hunted for as a child – the same strong colors in front of a green background, same time of the year (feel free to insert your own Proust Madeleine reference here) … Bluethroats apparently are good at imitating other birds.

This last implies of course an improvement in ethics, as opposed to morality, as I have defined it, unless we already understand 'Do as you would be done by' as applicable to whales, cattle, chickens, and so on, as it is to human beings. I eat eggs though they may come from battery hens. I am myself not so heroic.
