Birding the Changi Business Park-Singapore

It is often useful to look at satellite images on Google Earth to see where there is suitable habitat for different bird species. When we decided to go to see what bird species there were in the undeveloped areas at Changi Business Park we encountered several species of bird that we did not observe anywhere else in Singapore.

Birding Pulau Ubin-Singapore

Although the tide was in we were still able to observe several species of shorebird on Pulau Sekudu. One bird species that we had hoped for during our visit to Singapore was the White-rumped Shama. We encountered a Grey-headed Fish Eagle flying through the area, which kindly landed in a tree and allowed for photography!

Week 16: South Africa and Kruger National Park

So far we have seen Impala, Duiker, Greater Kudu, Mongoose, Zebra and warthogs around the neighborhood, and yard. In the same first day plus a couple of hours, my Africa bird count is at 66 species. The African Fish Eagle was a great first day bird. The mighty rhino along with the Cattle Egret.

Birding Cape Town

On my recent visit I managed to see specialties like Spotted Eagle Owls , Swee Waxbills , Cape Sugarbirds , Malachite Sunbirds and Cape Francolins. Spotted Eagle Owl. The deep reedbeds and pools hide many species, including some hard-to-see hippos! Cape of Good Hope. Fynbos flowers are highlight of the cape. Boulders Beach.

Birding Singapore Sports Hub

We encountered over thirty species of birds around the Singapore Sports Hub on each visit and the best location we found was close to the Singapore Indoor Stadium. House Swifts , Pacific Swallows , a Brahminy Kite and a White-bellied Sea Eagle soared through the sky. Collared Kingfisher.

Sungei Buloh – Singapore’s Finest Wetlands

Also on the scene were a diversity of common doves and pigeons: Rock Pigeon , Spotted Dove , Zebra Dove , and Pink-necked Green Pigeon. I also pulled three species of tailorbird along with Asian Glossy Starling , Black-naped Oriole , and White-bellied Sea-Eagle en route. Common Redshanks and more.
