But if a blog post is an un-or-poorly illustrated, straightforward account of a birder’s visit to a local park that lacks amazing birds or scenery is there any reason to read it? So why the heck are blog posts about birding local patches the most common type of blog post that bird bloggers produce? Really boring.

In another of these strenuous links to something rather irrelevant that this blog hopefully is not famous for yet, there is a great song by Frank Turner, “A wave across a bay” About Scott Hutchison, singer of the band Frightened Rabbit who committed suicide at a bay in Scotland. The Crested Mynas do not seem to mind.

Redgannet, the blog, has taken a back seat while 10,000 Birds does most of the driving and Mrs Gannet does the navigating, so it has slightly lost its way over the last year or so. But, if you have arrived from out of town, with no car and limited time, you need ideas that can easily be achieved from the city centre on public transport.

Public accommodations include government buildings, stores, hotels, transportation hubs, hospitals, schools, restaurants, etc. This post is picture-heavy because I think it is helpful to see everything, but the blog only supports small images, so larger versions (and even more photos) are on Flickr.

Someday I hope to make the long journey to Inaccessible Island, which is generally accomplished by traveling to Cape Town, South Africa and catching a ride on a boat to Tristan da Cunha and then inveigling a local into providing transportation over to Inaccessible Island.
