In between now and then, I will spend a week and a half in California, in the land where birding may mean walking on paved paths, or even on a wooden boardwalk built through the middle of a salt marsh. But once I get back home to Mexico, I will be climbing hills on livestock trails once again. And another day each week I go birding.

We soon departed to our various locations, bellies full and eyes hungry for birds. Three of them in fact, rare visitors from the north.

Hawking for Nighthawks

Just under a fortnight ago, I saw a report on the local bird alert of a sighting of a group of approximately 20 Nacunda Nighthawks at a wetland not more than 20 minutes from where I live. It seemed to be good birding judgement to scan the seasonally flooded wetland in the couple hours of daylight available before the storm arrived.

Each of them holds a very nice group of birds year round, and an increased number during the winter migration. The amount of insects that are prevalent is, I am sure, a huge one. This is where things start to get fun.
