When you approach the gate it will still not say where it goes, but will warn you that the property has 1080 dog baits on it in an attempt to eradicate wild dogs. Camping in the bush at Langi Crossing offers great birding and in recent weeks we have observed over 80 species from a spot on the riverbank.

I also have the whole area to myself, while later in the day there will be people walking and exercising their dogs. This brought my bird list for Marlow Lagoon to 61 species and then a pair of returning Dollarbirds from Asia swooped in calling and the species list was 62 for a lagoon in the city of Palmerston.

Dogs are able to detect diseases such as cancer and diabetes and warn humans of impending heart attacks and strokes. Dogs Sniffing Out Disease. As we know, dogs have a keen sense of smell. More research is needed, but initial studies by the Pine Street Foundation and others on using dogs for diagnosis are promising.

We were to spend a few days with my sister and family that had travelled from Sydney and my parents, who had not been able to travel to Australia this year. By the time we had arrived at the local train station we had seen numerous bird species and every field appeared to have several Common Pheasant feeding in the late afternoon.

We are very privileged to have so many of this particular shorebird species right here in Broome. The Bar-tailed Godwit population has declined in recent years and there are threats worldwide causing its decline.

Another nice find by the assembled birders was a Bar-shouldered Dove , a species I had only seen in Queensland before this point. I’ve seen the species here and there over the years, but today they were utterly ubiquitous, even our guide had never seen this many. Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo. was a Powerful Owl.
