Marabous have also learnt another trick, and that is to follow vultures and scavenge off the remains of Lion and other large predator kills. It is also related to Wood Stork of the Americas and Milky Stork of Asia.

Ring-necked Pheasants are native to Asia, brought over in the 1880’s. During some seasons, millions of male pheasants are killed. Partners in Flight estimates that the global breeding population is around 50 million; 30% of which can be found in North America and Canada. These males are striking.

The Blue-crowned Laughingthrush (Wuyuan) is listed as Critically Endangered, as there are only about 250-280 birds spending the breeding season in Northeastern Jiangxi (and according to the HBW, it is not clear where they spend the non-breeding period). The shame would kill them.

The kitten Venus is an F4 Bengal meaning she’s four generations (F4) removed from the Asian Leopard Cat which is a small wild cat from Asia. Asian Leopards are about house cat sized and can breed with house cats giving a bit more wild animal to your domestic pet. Lorraine started with one tiny kitten when she moved into her home.

Also known as the Flyeater, this tiny bird is the only representative of the Australasian warbler family found in mainland Asia, and very similar to my own Grey Warblers in New Zealand, even their songs. A target bird was next, the Pheasant-tailed Jacana, which was sadly not in breeding plumage but was still attractive.
