Further ahead we were greeted by a large group of Burrowing Parrots that we resting along the road next to a vineyard just before Cafayete. Green-barred Woodpeckers.

Soon a large group of Great Dusky Swifts started flying in an out of the water falls attracting our attention. We also heard parrots but we could not get close enough to see them, we were hoping to see the Vinaceous-breasted Amazons which are now listed as endangered and there is a famous group of them that can be seen in town. On the way back to the car we could hear a group of parakeets that circled the forest and landed near the park entrance.

Golden-crowned Warbler

This individual was seen in Costanera Sur, Argentina and found a gentle pish to be simply irresistible. aureocapillus group of races. cabanisi group is found in southwest South America and the birds seen in Central America will be from the B.c.cucillivorus group. The Argentinian birds come from the B.c.

Nightingale-Thrushes

(My region, thankfully, only seems to host migratory Hermit Thrushes from this group. Catharus Thrushes are small forest-dwelling Thrushes, and the Nightingale-Thrushes are the members of this group that have never become migratory. Having said all of this, I must say that the Nightingale-Thrushes are a charming little group.

The Andean Avocet

Birding Chaco at JV Gonzles – Trip Report

Suddenly in the middle of the soybean fields there was a group of Lesser Rheas that were approaching the road. We stopped and observed this first group of adult Rheas that seemed quite comfortable with us and the road traffic. Moments later we spotted a second group of 20 adult and young Rheas running across the field.
