Mammals of South Asia (Lynx Edicions)

10,000 Birds

Ahead of the first trip, I wasn’t thinking much about mammals, and yet, you cannot miss them, from Nilgais near villages to Indian Flying Foxes in town centres, not to mention those ubiquitous and irresistibly cute Palm Squirrels eating seeds left for parakeets. I clearly needed a mammal book. monkeys, deer, gazelles, etc.).

Foreign animals surviving in other climates

Reddit Animals

In The Last of Us video game, there are two scenes where they show exotic animals surviving in the North American climate. The monkeys made sense; many species of apes and monkeys are adaptable to many climates and are similar to humans in terms of anatomy. The giraffes did not. Any and all speculation would be appreciated.

The Sounds of a Tiger-Heron

10,000 Birds

One of the most impressive aspects of the Tropical Rainforests is the incredible array of sounds produced by animals. Interior forest animals, from invertebrates to large mammals, rely on sounds to communicate; the forest is so dense that visual cues are meaningless. I thought the mammal I was hearing was sitting in one place.

To illustrate my frequently made point that mammals are kind of evil, here is another piece of evidence. Some of the gruesome details are given in the abstract of the paper: “The monkey killed all the three chicks by biting off their heads while feeding on them. Maybe the species has shrunk in the past few decades.

For example, you could say, “among mammals, only three families include species with a meaningful degree of root eating” or “within the family that includes lemmings and voles, there is a mixture of monogamous and polygynous species” and so on. So, here’s the thing. Some sort of ancient fish-with-feet is the ancestors of humans.

Honey, I Shrunk The Dinosaurs!

10,000 Birds

It is technically correct, and recently fashionable, to insist that any living animal is a member of the larger group that contains it phylogenetically, i.e., ancestrally, with that group often named after the known animal that roots the tree. So, for example, humans are apes. The point is, of course, that whales are not cows.

Birding Longcanggou, Sichuan

10,000 Birds

Finally, getting to the slightly annoying but somehow obligatory mention of mammals seen at Longcanggou. Among all mammals, I think I like monkeys the least. Given that red is the color of communism and that the Red Panda is much cuter than the Giant Panda anyway, this animal should be the one utilized to promote Longcanggou.
