The interests in nourishment and in gustatory pleasure lead man to kill and eat cattle, fish, and fowl. This cuts down on the long-range satisfactions of the cattle, the fish, and the fowl. And I believe that in most cases man is morally justified in thus reducing the satisfactions of the food animals.

There are two approaches a vegetarian might take in arguing that rearing and killing animals for food is morally offensive. He might argue that eating animals is morally bad because of the pain inflicted on animals in rearing and killing them to be eaten. Or he could object to the killing itself.

Davis, an emeritus professor of animal science at Oregon State University, says the horses “damage” the environment. A total of 33,000 wild horses are degrading the environment, but around 3 million to 4 million cattle are not? Animals in nature don’t need to be controlled by a species that has such difficulty in controlling itself.

It seems that at Nanhui, somebody is trying to kill even more than 2 bird(s) (species) with one stone (to be more accurate, not a single stone but a massive amount of concrete). Apparently, the choice is for the nests to be flooded (those near streams) or to be trampled by cattle (those near the agricultural ponds).

What Is an Animal Part? The last example suggests the difficulty of making a clear distinction between an animal part and an animal product. If a genetically engineered animal’s legs periodically fell off, would not its legs be more like a product of an animal (analogous to eggs) than a part of the animal?

Most moral vegetarians list fish and fowl as animals one should not eat. First, it may be argued that only animals who can feel pain are not to be eaten. If beef cattle who could not feel pain were developed, then it would be permissible to eat them. Neither is it obvious, however, that eating microorganisms does not kill them.
