In the shadow of a $5 million-dollar grant given to Oklahoma State’s renowned veterinary school and then rescinded due to allegations of abusive and cruel animal research practices, Oklahoma State University Philosophy Club and Friends of the Forms will host animal activist Chris DeRose.

I didn't know that there were specific breeders out there producing animal subjects for medical research. According to this article, some are so bad that the University of California and the University of Cincinnati have actually decided to end their relationships with them and stop purchasing animals bred for research use.

I don't support animal research and I have no sympathy for animal researchers. I don't believe they want an honest dialogue about what they are doing to animals. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists.

Plus, animals are messy, require feeding and constant care, draw protests, and, yes, can be a bit smelly. This is an important issue.

This article in the Herald Tribune claims that animal rights is winning out over animal research. I would take the article with a grain of salt. It depends on who's writing the article of course.I I've read the same on the other side. think it's still a long, long fight. But perhaps these are positive signs.
