Most gallingly of all, I had actually stood next to someone that saw one, jumping into a tree to escape a Tiger of all things, and failed to see it. The other three were the aforementioned Tiger, one of the wildlife sightings of my life, a handful of Bobcats I have seen in California and a small Jungle Cat.

Over a decade since I was last there, I am finally heading back to Africa late this year. As has been the case every time I’ve been to Africa before, I won’t be there just for play. In Hawaii I stood on a beach as albatrosses fledged and Tiger Sharks prowled for the less successful ones.

He interpreted the bones, also at Klasies but other sites in South Africa as well, to indicate that human ancestors hunted only Eland until they became fully modern very recently, then they started hunting the much more dangerous and harder to hunt Buffalo. Eland are pretty darn hard to hunt. Perhaps we can discuss that some other time.

It’s all very well to advocate the should that tigers should not be poached from a reserve in India. The tigers keep wandering out of their reserve and taking cattle from nearby villages, taking what little these already poor people have. Perhaps it would be better to move the tigers to that bigger reserve, or maybe a zoo.
