Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Gaur Morning

In front of us, in the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve one wild Grey Junglefowl runs across the road. For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur. So, I birded India, land of Indian Peafowl , Saag Paneer (my favorite Indian dish) and Tigers. Well, they were all memorable, but these two involve subjects people have asked about without fail—the Taj Mahal and Tigers. Target: Tigers. Our local Ranthambhore guide told us that a tiger had been located on our route.

Should is not a Solution

It’s all very well to advocate the should that tigers should not be poached from a reserve in India. The tigers keep wandering out of their reserve and taking cattle from nearby villages, taking what little these already poor people have. Perhaps it would be better to move the tigers to that bigger reserve, or maybe a zoo.
