And a few years later, I read of her experience birding with me at one of the larger birding web sites and learned that E. I though her to be a silent type, perhaps tired of flying and jet lag, but it never ever occurred to me that my female guest may be worried when passing closed and abandoned communist era factories. I was nervous.

Maybe author Sy Montgomery is right when she says that “birdwatchers often look down on falconry,” and maybe not. It’s not clear from the book’s ending, but it sounds like she abandoned her nascent apprenticeship because of her traveling schedule, her marriage, and her own chickens who would certainly be killed if she kept a hawk.

He yelled a relatively unintelligible explanation as he ran to the car, abandoning his family, and sped to Jamaica Bay where he parked and ran out to the breach of the West Pond where he relied upon the kindness of other birders, who let him use their scopes while he got his breath back. Instead, it antagonizes us with petty worries.

This would have allowed you to summarize your experience in sentences such as “A total of 98 boluses regurgitated by 52 chicks aged 1 day to 11 days after hatching form the sample and are shown to contain 323 food items.” Sounds like clever behavior by the parrotbills, right? But maybe that is actually a good thing.

Travis got to experience things he normally wouldn’t (like spending about 5 hours every day in a pool) and seeing the world famous Canadian Forces Snowbirds aerobatic team (I can post a photo of them right? Most troubling for me, because I think of them as my birds, is the abandoned nesting attempt by a pair of Pacific Loons.

In the cartoon diagram to the left you see the person behind the wall poking at the feeding box with the stick, and in the diagram to the right, you see the stick menacing the feeding box rather mysteriously. The next graph shows the average number of times per trial that the crow decided to abandon an effort to get at the food.

I learned of the trip right as it had been delayed and made a vow that I would be on that ship. After securing our passage, I patiently waited for this once-in-a-lifetime experience to a place we have never been and lacked any knowledge of, we were in for a complete surprise. Salvin’s Prion.
