On Boxing Day, when we found the first Gang-gang Cockatoos for our 2019 bird list, we encountered an Echidna. Echidna use their spines as defence and roll up as tight as they can to protect themselves. Once again this week I would like to wish you and your families and friends all good health.

I am determined to instill the same love for the natural landscape in my friends and family, especially any new, tiny members. With my new job, I feel privileged to work towards protecting vulnerable species each and very day. Not so much. So cheers to 2020, and more birding adventures!

We have observed the first Pied Oystercatcher chicks of 2019 over the past two weeks grow steadily. Over the two weeks since I first introduced you to this family of Pied Oystercatchers there has been a lot of walking. They travel through the dunes where there is shade among the vegetation and some protection from predators.

One of these days, Jeopardy will feature a category called “Field Guides” and the first clue will be: “This landlocked South American country finally got its own bird field guide in 2016, but it wasn’t available in the United State until 2019.” This unfortunately happens with the large Tanager (Thraupidae) family here.
