World Sparrow Day is celebrated annually on March 20th to raise awareness across the globe about the decline of the House Sparrow and how it impacts all of us.

New York City Park Department Contractor Tears Up Imperiled Sparrows Home

10,000 Birds

A New York City Parks Department contractor just wiped out a breeding population of sparrows in tons of trouble already, on land owned by the parks department that was supposed to be protected as “Forever Wild.” It looks to me like they drove a crane straight through this section of what’s called Four Sparrow Marsh. Best Bird of the Weekend (First of July 2012)

10,000 Birds

Most of these birds were House Sparrows , one of which must have been the c**k of the rock for this flock. I doubt Corey saw anything nearly as notable as a Herculean House Sparrow. Yesterday, a mixed swarm of birds descended on my lawn. Very impressive, no? How about you? What was your best bird of the weekend?

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of April 2012)

10,000 Birds

Luckily, swarms of songbirds arrived on time, including one very handsome Fox Sparrow. As promised, I finally made it up to Owl Woods and the Braddock Bay area. Too bad the hawks and owls couldn’t make it too!
