I had a great time back in 2012 and even more fun in 2014. That means grassy fields are loaded with sparrows, hummocks are filled with wood-warblers, and wetlands teem with waterfowl. Ditto for the feral Muscovy Ducks , though they are a bit less nice. Who knows what great birds 2015 will bring? Find at least one life bird.

And in the middle of a heatwave of the 2012 summer, I was heading to Sarajevo and Jahorina Mountain, a major venue of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Right: Water Pipits landing on my car and sliding down the windscreen. Yet, Bosnia and Herzegovina was the very heartland of former Yugoslavia, with Sarajevo in its geographical centre.

Over the next few days, I found increasing numbers, goldfinches, juncos, white-throated sparrows. ©2012 Donna L. I was shocked when I found the first body, a female Towhee. I hoped it was an anomaly. Were they always there and I just never noticed?

In a funny twist of fate, it seems that 2014 will be much the same as 2012 and 2013 have been, with family trips to somewhere in France and business trips to Indonesia and Kazakhstan.
