My Year in Birding 2012

10,000 Birds

I had some goals for this year as well, goals which I laid out in the introduction to my 2012 year list. I came up just short of reaching 1,100 Birds on my overall World Life List , clocking in at 1,096, not a bad increase of 48 from the beginning of 2012 when I started at 1,048. I wonder how many I’ll be able to add in 2013.

Predicting My Next Ten Queens Birds

10,000 Birds

Somehow I forgot that the last time I predicted what the next ten species I would see in Queens would be was back on 30 December 2013, when my list was sitting at 302. What did I predict back in December of 2013? Brown Pelican, 3 Jul 2010, 11 Apr 2011, 15 May 2012, NOT YET SEEN! Long-eared Owl, 3 Jul 2010, 25 Mar 2013.

10,000 Birds

I just finished attending a really great conference called Focus on Diversity , The Changing Face of American Birding–which is an awesome event, (next year’s event will back up to the 2013 Rio Grande Valley Bird Festival so it would be a great way to get 2 awesome events in one trip). Have we all gone completely mental?

Waving The Yearbirding White Flag

10,000 Birds

Tropical Kingbird is likely to be one of the last birds I see in 2012 and first I see in 2013. December 25th is possibly the worst day of the year to be posting a blog, because lets face it, even the dispensing of wisdom from the world’s leading birder (past, present, and future) can compete with family duties.

Best Bird of the Year 2013

10,000 Birds

As 2013 draws to a close we here at 10,000 Birds thought that it would be a great idea if we, like we did in 2010 , 2011 , and 2012 , shared our Best Birds of the Year. I was attending the 3rd Global Bird-watching Conference in Gujarat and suddenly surrounded not just be species that were completely new, but entire families of birds.
