AVMA News

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association has updated its Global Vaccination Guidelines, which became available online April 8. The updated guidelines for dogs and cats suggest the leptospirosis vaccine should be considered “core” for dogs in regions where the disease is endemic. Also, the feline leukemia virus (FeLV) vaccine is now recommended as “core” for young cats and adult cats that have outdoor access or live with other cats that have outdoor access, in places where FeLV is prevalent.

Question for anyone

Reddit Animals

I’m not sure this will be allowed, but here goes. I live in the country, spend a lot of time outdoors. A few minutes ago, I heard an odd clicking noise, looked around, and a ROBIN was chasing a rabbit! The robin was clicking and jumping a few feet on the ground over the rabbit’s back, then it would fly to catch up to it. The rabbit hopped down the ravine to the woods, so I saw the event for only seconds.

Cyprus Delights – Part III

10,000 Birds

There are 154 species of cuckoos in the world, and they’re all a fascinating bunch. I reckon I’ve seen around 60 or them, which still leaves a lot to go. I’d really like to see a Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo (South-East Asia), while to see any of the Madagascan couas would be pretty cool (there’s 11 of them). I have encountered a few of the more quirky members of the family, including the brilliant and aptly-named African Emerald Cuckoo, India’s ultra-shy Sirkeer Malkoha, and the fascinating Lesse

Bean Hollow

10,000 Birds

Back when I was a kid growing up in California’s San Mateo County in the 60s and 70s, my family would occasionally drive 45 minutes west and south to Bean Hollow State Beach. Even now, I remember my mother commenting how that goofy English name sounded so much more romantic in its original language: Arroyo de los Frijoles. Little did I imagine that someday I would live much of my life in that same Spanish language.

Is it okay for my dog to run a 5k with me 3-5 times per week?

Reddit Animals

As the title says. Going to attach a picture so you can see his stature/fur/snout etc. We went a 5k today (I’m not fit I do a 5k in like 33 minutes mixing between running and walking) and he was struggling a little. He’s usually bouncing off the walls full of energy after a 5k walk but around half way through started dragging behind. He preferred running on the grass beside the pavement which I of course let him but even that didn’t seem to make him want to run towards the end.

How long before an animal to trust you

Reddit Animals

I've had some magpies build a nest in my tree in the back garden and have been leaving them bread on my overhang roof just below my bedroom window, for a while I would come back and the bread would be gone but now I've caught them sitting and waiting for the food to arrive but as soon as they see me they fly away, just wondering how long before they will recognise me and won't fly away when I approach the window submitted by /u/No_Rhubarb_5353 [link] [comments]

Starting a GoFundMe for a cat

Reddit Animals

So my mom works at a company that has daycare for people with Alzheimer's. They have a cat and the clients love it. Now the cat got some rotten tooth and the treatment was estimated at 200 euro by the vet, current antibiotics were around 60. If they would treat the cat, a big part of the participants budget for activities would be out. So I was wondering if anyone has any kind of experience in starting a go fund me or something to raise a little money for the cat, and if i would be even slig

Advice about splitting dogs apart after breakup

Reddit Animals

Hello I recently broke up with my partner and we have two dogs together. Originally he said I take one he take one, but I countered that I don’t think it is in the dogs best interest to separate them. I would love to keep my dog but not at the expense of the other dog. What do you think? For context I also am taking my cat so it would be a cat and one dog with me, and one dog with him.

What is the most athletic animal?

Reddit Animals

Obviously this depends on how you weight different criteria, but I'm thinking of animals that have a good combination of many different traits: agility, sprint speed, endurance, fighting ability, jumping ability, ability to swim. I'll submit the wild horse as a good candidate given this combination of features.

Why are chimpanzees catching SIV from other monkey prey they eat?

Reddit Animals

Chimpanzees are known to have most likely been the main cause of HIV virus in humans. My question is maybe a bit to broad, but what i want to know is, why would an animal species continually consume something unhealthy? Chimpanzees ate monkey species that had viruses they were not immune to.What is mostly the case with animals, is that they are always picky and by their own instincts determine what to and not to consume.Insects and worms will never touch a GMO fruit or food, but only natural, unp

Am I being paranoid

Reddit Animals

I know this sounds stupid , but I get really paranoid about stuff like this. So I was playing with a new dog and I didn’t notice I had a minor cut on the tip of my finger that the dog maybe accidentally licked. Also while playing one of the dog’s teeth gave me a very small scratch on one of my fingers. I don’t really know much about the dog’s owners or if they keep up with vaccinations , but am I crazy for thinking I can get a rabies or something ?

Real talk

Reddit Animals

We have been a problem for ALL animals for more than 10,000 years, and now we have polluted the earth so bad that flowers are blooming in Antartica, just image your children in the future asking “Dad/mom what’s a penguin?” Or what was a polar bear, we have been killing wild life since humans have appeared, and there’s nothing we can do about it at this point, the damage has been done, humans aren’t important, humans are a mistake.

Why are most animals cool with other animals, but freak out with humans?

Reddit Animals

Was walking today and saw a turtle. I walked up to it but it of course, moved away from me. I stopped and watched it for a minute and saw a bird land by it, not trying to hurt it or something but just felt like landing in front of it I guess. The turtle didn't speed up or go the opposite direction, it just kept slowly crawling, getting right up close to the bird, who didn't even seem to pay it any mind as it passed.

I was walking my dog today when I found a dead pigeon (correct me if I’m wrong).
