I chalked up 132 species in a pretty relaxed eight days, during which birds shared the agenda with culture. In early August this year, I saw 77 species here (69 on the lake, plus 8 more in the surrounding areas) but barely more than a thousand individuals. Spring (migrants and breeding species) and winter (wintering waterbirds). The western section turned out to be the least productive, although it may attract diving birds in winter months.

In the parking area I immediately encountered a pair of Australian Brush-turkeys as well as a new species for me, a Grey-headed Robin. This huge member of the Australian robin family is really tame in this carpark, making it probably the easiest place n the world to see the species (other than the Tableland it is only found in New Guinea).

European Turtle-Dove – Streptopelia turtur. ?apljin Oriental Turtle-Dove – Streptopelia orientalis. As at June 30 th , it stands at 1796.
