In light of this horrible incident, is it right for the zoo to carry on a breeding program that subjects more animals to such unnatural lives? Lisa Edmondson, Los Angeles The zoo, surely, carries responsibility for deficiencies in its enclosure. Finally, what of the audience?

Outside of Florida, there are also growing populations in Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Houston. They were right! Red-masked Parakeet, a near-threatened endemic of southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru, has sizeable population clusters in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.

A quick study as I researched this post revealed that fully 37 Arizonan “specialties” are common birds right here where I live. Look in the right place, and year-round you can also find Violet-crowned and Rivoli’s Hummingbirds , Blue-throated Mountain-Gems , and Plain-capped Starthroats here.

Additional helpful design features include the names of family groups against a yellow-and-white striped background on every page corner and having every bird image facing right (except for that Common Loon chick!), I’ve missed this information, especially when I travel to Los Angeles to visit my daughter and her family.

On Magical Mystery Tour , The Beatles’ famous 1967 album, there is an odd song called “Blue Jay Way which was written by George Harrison while he waited for Derek Taylor, who got lost trying to meet Harrison in the hills above Los Angeles on a foggy night. No wonder the album is called the Magical Mystery Tour !
